Hello, it’s me again, respawning from… the embers… of an ashen…
Ah, whatever. Ayana is here, so no need to fear!
A lot of things happened to me over the long period I was away.
Mental health ebbed and flowed. Lost someone I loved so much. Lost the drive and the motivation.
You know…
Life.
But…
there is one thing that keeps me sane and grounded.
My solace, ever since I was a kid.
Writing.
Hence, this blog post.
Hoping it will wipe away the tears that threaten to fall. cue in a sad song
Anyway, I built a board game recently.
A digital board game!
I was bored at work that day.
I couldn’t write anything then because I was still reeling from such a profound loss.
But creating something always helps take things off my mind.
Thus, Idlia was created.
Now, I’m here to ask you to kill time with it. 🙂
Why I built Idlia
Idlia is a game made for killing time. It runs in your browser, so you can open it, play a round, and close it without any commitment.
No sign-ups needed whatsoever. It doesn’t save any personal information either, nor spy on you, so you can rest easy knowing that (hey, I respect people’s privacy, you know). The game only saves progress in your device’s browser, meaning, if you open it with another device, it starts fresh.
I wouldn’t call myself a developer, but my dream is to be able to create games. Heck, my epic high fantasy series, Rhapsodia Chronicles, that I’m writing right now has always been planned to be turned into a JRPG. Idlia was my first foray into actually creating a game, and well… I wanted to teach myself a new skill.
Most games I found wanted either an hour of my attention or a pile of notifications in return. Idlia was my antidote for that. It is a game that is easy to play and available when you have a few minutes, and lets you leave when you’re done.
I designed it with two modes: Productivity and Adventure.
Productivity is to help someone be… more productive, while keeping it fun. Whereas Adventure is my attempt at making something that feels like the games I love, complete with the HP and EXP and all that. It has enemies and boss battles, designed with brain teasers and riddles for a challenge, dad jokes to make you laugh, and even a small trivia/fun fact so you learn something new. It even has a simple tune that might become an earworm, lol.
I also wanted to build something finished enough to hand to a stranger. I may not have coded it myself (coughClaudecough), but I was very hands on with it. It took me a lot of trial and error, but now, I can say it has come to a point where I’m satisfied with it.
Now, I would like for you to help me beta test it.
Or you know, you can just have fun with it. 😀
Help me test it
Clicking these buttons will open a new tab.
If you have about 10 minutes and don’t mind leaving feedback, that will be greatly appreciated. No essay needed. A short reply is plenty, and blunt honesty is welcome.
If not, no worries at all. I’ll still be grateful for your time trying the game.
Thanks for reading, and for giving it a try.
Cheers!
