Love at First Sight: A Dog for Gucci

Hello there!

Recently, I just finished the longest and most ambitious chapter of Rhapsodia Chronicles: Into a World of Illusion. And maaan, it took a huge emotional toll on me! It was huge in a way that I would end up crying from the scenes that unfolded. Sometimes, it kept me up so late at night that I literally lost sleep over it.

What was the chapter about, you ask?

Well, let’s just put it this way: it’s a spiritual and psychological awakening that affected not only my characters, but also me. In a way, I was writing that chapter for myself, haha, imparting or reminding myself of the lessons I wished I was taught by my elders when I was kid.

But anyway, that’s a different story. I want to focus on writing something light today (as I can still feel the emotional toll of the recently finished chapter…).

I want to share the story of how our little Sachi came to our lives.

Around July of 2025, my husband and I discussed getting a companion dog for our poochon, Gucci.

You see, Gucci was an active and very playful pup. We have another dog at home – my mom’s Chiweenie, Sharkie – but he’s already old and most of the time, too lazy to play. When no one is available to play with Gucci, he would just sit in a corner, sigh and have this sad look on his face.

Now, my heart breaks every time I see this. We would play with him, yes, but you know that feeling where our efforts were just not enough?

That’s how it felt for me.

Thus, I made it my mission to find a companion dog for Gucci. My husband and I set out to find another pup to adopt.

A few things we discussed for our search: it should be a puppy (younger or almost the same age as Gucci), and it should be a female (‘cause you know, I overcame the fear of taking care of a female pup).

Now, Gucci originally had a sister from the same litter.

Why didn’t we adopt his sister?

Well, at that time, we could only take care of one puppy. Adopting a puppy, after all, is a huge responsibility. Sure, they’re dogs, but taking care of them is not that different from taking care of babies.

After all, a baby and a pet’s common denominator is that their survival depends on YOU to take care of them.

So, yeah. Unfortunately, we could only take care of one that time. Hence, Gucci.

Now, back to Sachi.

Oh! I forgot to mention that I also told my husband that we would only get a dog from the shelter.

Again, I stand with the dogs at the shelter and believe that they deserve to find their furever homes. God knows that if only I had the means, time or power to take care of those dogs, I would. I feel so bad when I hear stories of them being abused or abandoned.

Yeah, if you haven’t known by now, I easily cry when it comes to animals. I freakin’ cried when I learned about Punch the Monkey!! Well, I cry about a lot of stuff, actually, like the state of our world, the injustices…

Whoops, I’m getting sidetracked, lol.

Anyway, Sachi.

I remember spending a loooooooot of time online looking for dogs. Heck, I even contacted strangers that my husband found online that were rehoming pets. Some of those ended up as breeders, and I had to stand my ground with my husband and tell him no. The idea of getting a pet from a breeder just doesn’t sit well with me. Not to mention the amount of money it costs just to get one from them.

So, yeah. Again, I remember checking the nearby shelters around us…

EVERY.SINGLE.DAY.

Yeah, you read that right. I was checking multiple shelter websites every single day!

Even when I was at work! (lol, I shouldn’t be bragging about this now, right?!)

I was so determined to find a companion dog for Gucci! So he wouldn’t be sad, and alone, and… and…

And lo and behold, I found Sachi… err, Georgia (this was her real name, lol) at one of the websites I checked every day! It was the weekend then. I just finished a round of playing DotA 2 with my husband when we both decided to check around. I went to the shelter’s website and browsed through their available dogs and VOILA!

I found this shiny, blonde Yorkie-like pup! She was sooooo pretty and adorable too! She was so tiny, being held up in that photo of her. And her furs… oh, it seemed like she was glowing with the golden fur!!

Talk about love at first sight! 😍

And so, I immediately filled out an adoption application for her. An hour later, I got a call from the shelter and voila! They wanted us to meet her and told us to bring all the other dogs at home so they can all meet at a neutral space.

I was elated! I couldn’t wait to meet our lovely, little girl!

It was a Wednesday when we came to visit her at the shelter. I took some time off work, that’s how serious and excited I was! Then my husband and I took Gucci and my mom’s Sharkie with us to the shelter.

What happened next became a testament that if something is meant to be, the universe will find a way to make it happen. Our first meeting with Georgia went well. She was so adorable!! Now, Gucci is wary of new dogs. But when he met Georgia, they played together. Well, it didn’t start off like that, per se… but you know, they gradually started playing around during our visit. Heck, she even kept following Gucci around and even shared the same drinking bottle. Even the shelter employee was surprised and impressed at the same time, saying that Georgia never did any of that with the other dogs.

First Photo: Sachi, when she first came to us
Second Photo: Sachi, after her first spa day!

So, yes. Georgia was meant to become a part of our family. She had to stay at the shelter for the next few days because of scheduling conflict (she had a scheduled spaying procedure the following day because the shelter wouldn’t be able to release dogs unless they’re spayed/neutered), so we had to wait a couple of days before she gets home to us.

Anyway, my husband picked her up the following week, and we welcomed the newest member of our family. Then we decided to give her the name Sachi (short for Versace).

And that’s how our little baby girl became a part of our family.

Now, Sachi is very playful and likes to play-bite! I swear, we should have named her Little Shark, or Mako, or something. It’s funny how when Gucci is just relaxing and all, Sachi would suddenly just pounce at him and start wrestling him. Lol.

My heart is full and I freakin’ love these pups. I even told my husband that he has been dethroned in my life. It used to be him on the top, but now, Gucci and Sachi dominate it, lol.

Oh, and the feeling is mutual too. I have been dethroned in my husband’s hierarchy. xD

Now, these two are practically inseparable!

Their characteristics really complement each other. Gucci is a nervous and wary big brother, while Sachi is the confident and headstrong little sister.

Whenever another dog comes close to Gucci, you bet Sachi will always jump in between and ready to protect her big brother.

It’s such a beautiful dynamic, really. We’re lucky to have them in our lives. 🙂

Oh, I once read a quote too in social media before. Something along the lines of.. our pets are actually the souls of the children that were meant for us. But the universe ran out of human bodies, so they came back as dogs instead (credits to the original writer of that quote!).

What about you? Do you have any pet stories to share? I’d love to hear about yours too!
